Recently I saw a post online on one of the social media websites questioning the relevance of a life coach. I was quick to respond, maybe because I thought “how ignorant could people be-let me school him a little”. I later withdrew because that is not how I want o set a foundation for the new year and it is probably not worth it.
Non the less I have taken advantage of the situation to write my first newsletter here, to lay down a few facts about a personal life coach.
I needed a professional support system to enable me be able to achieve some of my goals because I saw the gap in my lifestyle. It was either not easy to come across one, or I was financially unable or couldn’t get exactly what I wanted in terms of the available options to confide in.
Life Coaching as an entire career on its own which couples very well with counselling and psychology as they share a lot of similarities yet they are all distinct in their roles and nature. It is also quite demanding in character because one ought to believe and practice what they profess. To be well equipped one has to do a lot of research on past and present affairs in order to keep up to date and remain relevant.
Being a life coach does not mean that one is above life and even their clients. As I mentioned up there one needs to constantly learn and update themselves. A life coach is a person dedicated to understand experiences for the purpose of practising a balanced life and being a support system for their client.
A life coach offers accountability and a supportive environment where a client can build consistency and character in the direction which they desire until they are stable and independent enough to move on. Therefore a life coach isn’t and shouldn’t be interested in creating dependency. A coach teaches introspection and critical thinking, two virtues that are fundamental in independence and creative thinking. A coach is not a one stop shop to everyone for all life solutions and thus there are different niches to be explored, but all usually have a common basic foundation. Lastly a coach should not be biased to their own personal preference so that their sessions are able to achieve maximum effect positively and as required. This will help the client to make informed choices by having gained different life perspectives.
